Article Topics

Right now, I'm pulling articles that have the kind of features that make them good choices for rhetorical analysis. I try to aim for a variety of categories (i.e., articles about love/sex/relationships, pieces that focus on politics/the nation, texts that cover parenting/children, etc. etc.).

As I'm reading and vetting pieces, I'm wondering if there's a particular topic you might find interesting (remember, you're analyzing someone else's article rather than generating your own content for this paper). Want to see writing about the Martin/Zimmerman case? Miley's antics? Work/life balance? 

I will try to take all responses into consideration here. If I find something that I think will work, by all means, I'll include it in the list of texts. (I'm generally looking for strong persuasive writing that uses a wide variety of rhetorical devices and boasts a clear argument. This is why I choose the articles rather than allowing you to choose anything from anywhere on the good ol' internetz.) 

Post any recommendations in the comments.

I love to be with friends and family. I have been playing sports my whole life but once I got into college it was just to much with work and school and etc. So now I just run and go to the gym. I love being outside like, hiking, biking,going to the river,being at the desert,etc. there is so much stuff I love to do.The girl next to me at the river is my best friend Cassie.




This is my mom It has been only me and her my whole life. She is my role model. I don't know what i'd do if I didn't have her.





I just got back from a 2 week vacation from our yearly trip to Hawaii. I had a blast I loved it and I already want to go back. It felt so real this trip because we looked at the college and houses. I know its a big dream but I hope and wish it happens. Before I settle down and start my own family I want to travel the world and see new places. Hopefully I can do that when I become a nurse. My dream is to be a traveling nurse.

 I am still very young so I don't have kids or anything like that but I do have a puppy she is so amazing she is a one year old boxer her name is maggie. she is a big cuddlier and has the best personality.

Sorry about all the photos I love taking pictures. But I am looking forward to the semester with you guys. By the way that Is me and my cousin at the desert about to take the buggy out.

Sometimes I wear fancy hats.

 I don't particularly like talking about myself. At lease not over the web I don't. I'm 20 years old, male, and somehow have yet to leave the country.

I like science. Also,the Avengers are pretty cool.

I love most science (sorry physics) and am pleased to have a strong natural aptitude for all sciences as well. Unfortunately,my skill at writing leaves much to be desired when compared to my ease and ability to vocalize my thoughts.

I look forward to working with you all even though its only a matter of time before I realize little free time I have between class and work. Well, at the least I'll  remember why free time is valuable.

Hello my name is Mikey and this is my first semester in college. I am originally from Monterey, CA but moved here at 9 years old and have loved it here ever since.

I have 2 brothers and 2 sisters. I have a 9 year old sister named Jaikara, a 2 year old brother named Desmond, and twin brother and sister that are 1 years old named Anthony, and Madison.

My Music: I love to sing, play guitar, play piano, and play ukulele. It helps me show my emotions and it's an easier way of  expressing my feelings. I get all my music talent from my mom because she has always been an amazing vocalist. If you would like to check out my youtube it is michaelmmckay. 

I also like to go airsofting with my team on Saturday's. Airsofting is the funnest thing to do for me and I will never stop playing it (and no I don't mean those cheap $10 guns from Wal-Mart, I mean those $300 professional fully automatic guns).  I also have a youtube for that and it is AIRSOFTHELIX510 but I am only in 1 video. It is a really fun and growing sport that I wish more people participated in.

Hello there. I'm Kailyn. I'm twenty-four years old, born and raised in California. This is my first semester at MiraCosta, but not my first semester in college. I've attended Palomar on and off, mostly off, for 4 years now.  I have a strong passion for sports. I grew up playing softball and soccer, but I love to watch hockey and football. I'm extremely excited for the upcoming hockey season, is it October yet?!

I love to read, travel and hang out with my friends. If I could, I would move to NYC in an instant. It's one of the most beautiful cities. I've been there 3 times, and each time I fall more and more in love with it.

I honestly think that Disneyland is the happiest place on earth. I'm a season pass holder, so I try to get up there as much as possible. I feel that being there brings out my inner child.

When I'm not in school, I'm either working, blogging, attending a country concert, or hanging out with my friends and family. I feel that family and friends is the most important part of life. I've lost too many people over the years and I try  take advantage of being with my family and close friends as much as possible.

This is my second year at MiraCosta, and I'm hoping to transfer to CSUSM by next fall. I'm engaged to this awesome dude named Anthony, and we're both avid video game players.

 If I'm not at MiraCosta or working as an office assistant, you can find me on the couch in my pajamas playing video games without a care (or hairbrush) in the world.

Hello my name is Lynnel Navarro. I am 27 years old  and a proud mother and step mother to three wonderful children ages 2,7, and 12. I have a loving, caring boyfriend , father, best friend for the last 7 years.  I am a full time caregiver to developmentally disabled adults. This is my second semester at Mira Costa. I haven't quite figured what exactly I want to do.

Hello my name is Maryssa I am 22 years old, I am a certified hair stylist I love the industry that I am in it is so free and creative. It is not a judge mental or any type of pressure to be a certain way; certain size, certain look, certain shape. You are solo based on your talent alone of making whoever is sitting in your chair the happiest person ever! I decided last summer to go back to school and at least get my basic education and maybe even pursue something in the animal world. I am thinking maybe a veterinarian.

I love living in California it is such a beautiful place I really couldn’t picture myself living anywhere else! I am from Oregon, but then decided to move to California to pursue my dream in hair. My hobbies are doing hair, I love shopping and spending money it’s a problem J hehe that I am trying to work on, I love my family more than anything in the world it pains me that I can’t be with all the time but I know they are happy that I am doing something that I love! I enjoy tattoos I feel that is a expression of your soul and is also very creative like the same industry that I am in. These are some of the tattoos that I have.

Hello everyone! :) My name is Sungmi Pyun and I am 23 years old. I will be 24 in two weeks. I can’t wait to celebrate with my families and friends. :) I am not a blogger so I am not sure if I am doing fine. I hope I get use to this blog during this semester.

I am Korean and I am currently staying in Korea for summer vacation. I often visit Korea for summer. I will be going back to the states after a month. Also, I am working right now in Korea at the clothing store. It is my first time working so I am learning a lot.

This is my second time to take class at Miracosta college. I am currently UCSD student and my major is Economics so I am taking this class for humanities. I will be graduate next year so I hope I pass this class. :)

 I like to watch musical. I watched BIBAP musical two weeks ago and it was really fun!!:))))

my name is Nicole and I am not familiar with blogging at all. Truthfully, I am not even sure how this is linked so other students can see but hey, I followed the directions so lets hope this is right...

Lets see, there are 3 things you should know about me. I am a Mommy, a vegan, and I love physics!


My Daughter is my world and my drive to finish my BA and further pursue my PhD. I crammed this semester full of online classes so I can spend everyday at home with her. I would not be here if it was not for her and there is not a day goes by that I do not smile because of her.

I became conscious of the vegetarian/vegan diet when I was 12 and after 4 years of a vegetarian lifestyle I made the switch to vegan, i.e. eating an absolutely animal free diet.

I am majoring in biophysics because I am crossed between going to medical school or pursuing physics. Medicine helps today but physics is where we can be tomorrow. I am interested in quantum and particle physics as well as medical physics and surgery.

Hello everyone my name is Uriane. Honestly, I am not really a blogger, but it is something I can handle. I am really focused and determined to achieve my educational goals. So that I am a successful individual. I love to draw and I love to sing, even thought about American Idol once, but I'm just a tad shy, so what good would that do? I've been drawing out a couple of my next tattoos, I think that would be pretty awesome to have something I drew out myself be apart of my body art. All in all, I am going to "Getter Done" as said by Larry the Cable Guy. I want to finish up my degrees in Network and Desktop Support, and Business Administration so that when I get married to the Love of My Life I know that I'm happy with my educational accomplishments, and can focus on being a great wife, to the man who is my best friend and who always treats me like his princess, even when I'm a brat.(I wouldn't even put up with me sometimes, but he does) he is amazing. Hi there, my name is Shannon and I live in Winchester, which I like to refer to as French Valley... after all, "French Valley" sounds so much more fancy than Winchester. I am 32 years old and have one daughter.  She is fabulous.

Some of my favorite things are unicorns, The Rock, snow, and Valencia orange refreshers from Starbucks.I love using the word magical, and I love all things that sparkle. 

 

I even purchased a glitter binder for this class.

 

 

 

 

I think it is important for you all to know up front that I am all about taking selfies. I feel that the selfie is truly an art form and I take them whenever I have the opportunity.

I recently got a dog and named her Fancy.

 

 

 

 She is a goldendoodle, and I don't think she likes to swing very much. Have a puppy is a lot like having a newborn. I don't want to rush her through life or anything, but lets just say I cant wait to get to the part where she just lays around all day.

I once got tricked in to volunteering to be a referee. I had to take an 8 hour class which I thought would be a "you pass if you show up" kind of situation, but they actually required me to pass a written exam with nearly 100 questions. I was able to persevere and as soon as I got my referee badge I immediately razzled it up with glitter. The person in charge of the referees said I couldn't wear a badge with glitter and that ended my referee career.

 

My absolute favorite movie of all time is Dirty Dancing. I have had a crush on Patrick Swayze since I was four.

My other most favorite movie of all time is Home Alone.

 

 

I love hot dogs. Yes, I know they are not healthy, yes, I know they are made of questionable substances but listen, I have never read the ingredients and I feel that I am better off that way. I recently switched to turkey franks, and I must say they aren't bad. I don't know if they are really any better for me, or if a hot dog is a hot dog, but at least it helps me to convince myself I am making healthier choices.

Hot dog at the One Direction concert....don't judge me, I went because my 12 year old loves them....and because they are adorable little fellas.

 

My first concert was in 1993 when I was 12. I saw Billy Ray Cyrus in all his mullet glory. It was amazing. I am rather impressed with myself for still having the ticket 20 years later, and it just having one schmutz stain.

 

I don't want you to be jealous when you see this next photo. I know it will be hard due to my flowing luscious third-grade mullet locks. I had great hair back then.....

 

Please also try not to be jealous of my amazing crooked bangs (that my dad cut by putting a strip of masking tape across my forehead which turned out to be surprisingly unreliable) and my Heidi dress in the following photo. Again, I know it will be hard.

 

I recently attended the Michael Bolton concert with my mom at the Grove in Anaheim. When I was growing up my mom was OBSESSED with Michael Bolton. I know every word to every song and I wasn't afraid to show it at the concert. He has the voice of an angel.  My coworkers apparently don't feel as though he is as amazing as I do and put up some hilarious pictures of him at my desk. 

I have a great job working as a Human Resources Manager and was lucky enough to find a career I loved when I was 19. If I could convince you all of one thing, it would be that HR people are people too.  If I call you to my office, that doesn't necessarily mean you're getting fired..... but why are you so nervous? You're acting kind of suspicious, maybe you did something wrong??!

 

 I have 13 years of experience in HR and recently passed my SPHR exam (Senior Professional in Human Resources). It was a doozy of a test. The national pass rate is under 40%.  I had a lot of Jessi Spano moments in the weeks leading up to my exam. I have decided that it is time to get my degree in Business Management, so that is what I am doing here. I look forward to learning and growing through this semester with each of you.
