Blog post 5... To Vigilante or not to Vigilante

http://blog.thenewstribune.com/bluebyline/2012/06/25/of-victims-vigilantes-and-vendettas/

I chose to write my 5th blog on an article by "the news tribune" Of Victims, Vigilantes, and Vendettas.  The article demands attention on the grounds that it speaks of something we have all at least thought about at one point. The fine line of vigilanteism, and keeps us glued with the stories of several men who took law into their own hands. Two of which were released, one of which was arrested and prosecuted for beating an elderly Catholic priest who molested him as a child.

The author, Brian O'Neil utilizes concessions rebuttals and rhetorical questions expertly to convey his point that what is good for the goose, should be good for the gander.

In light of recent events, the article covers something that many of us are probably thinking. What do we do when the government fails miserably to protect us?

Vigilantism is always an interesting topic. Sometimes it's easy for us to know who the bad guy is, sometimes it's not so crystal clear.
If your "in light of recent events" ending about our government's failure to protect us was referring to that psycho that shot those movie goers... I for one don't want to have to walk through a metal detector every time I go see a movie.

Oh, the good ole' metal detectors. Let's turn going into the movies, or the mall, or work, or anywhere else into another airport fiasco.

Are we really any SAFER because of it?

I am really starting to realize that the US government has a knack for treating social and political issues with the same lack of finesse and efficiency as it does health epidemics: spend billions to cover up the occurrence and treat symptoms, but never really research "cures"; form no solid plan of action.

At the risk of offending some of you, I should probably stop, but the truth is, government protection is like a condom--lulling you with a false sense of security while you're really being screwed.
