Blog 4 Rail/Courtesy

almost_as_good_high_speed_rail_for_one_tenth_the_cost

According to the article, Amtrack wants tax payers to spend the moolah for the latest and greatest in trains.  They charge billions more for this choice as opposed to a rail system that's a slight step down on a technological staircase.  The author is a nincompoop (heh, spellcheck accepts that as a real word) due to the fact that he is one of "those guys that tie everything on the planet to the war in the middle East"  That crap has no business being in this short 4 paragraphs.  He threw that in to either connect with other nincompoops (again, heh.), or to bloat his lame-ass words.

Yglesias does show a little sense with: "On the other hand, as an actual proposal for what to do with $151 billion in transportation money, this is borderline insane, mostly serving to solve a not-particularly-severe problem at exorbitant cost."  This is his concession/rebutta.

I chose this one for it's relevance to what the powers that be want to do out here, the rail from San Fran to LA/SD. They don't need the latest and greatest on the East coast, and neither do we here on the West coast.  At least, we don't need to spend the money on this kind of thing until we can afford to pay teachers, cops, firefighters, and DMV workers, and still have some money left over.

I JUST REALIZED WE WERE SUPPOSED TO DO TWO ARTICLES!!!  Here's my second one.

Scott Simon makes the case for proper titles of respect such as Mr, Ms, Mrs, Dr, Sgt, Sen... He has concession with:  "I get kidded about all this "mister" and "mizzing." Lots of people like it, but some think it sounds dated or disingenuous, like Eddie Haskell."  The rest of his article is his rebuttal such as: "These days, utter strangers on the other side of the world call you by your first name when you call up to complain about a spurious charge on your cellphone bill. They think it's friendly, but I sometimes want to ask, 'Have we met? Can we try being a customer service agent and an irate customer first?'"  I can't help but relate to that.
In today's world, our respect for one another is at a low point.   I think a little more common courtesy would go a long way.

ESPECIALLY with how broke our government is out here... I read the article, and see the comparison that the author is trying to make with the war... And I thought that I would probably disagree with you before reading the article, but I have to say you're right. It seemed a little implanted.

We really do need to be looking at ways to save money as a nation though, so I liked what old Matt was saying in the article, but it goes a lot deeper than railways.

Written well. I like the economic examples you site.

Seriously??? The first article is ridiculous. We should not waste money on some damn trains. We should worry about students paying way too much on college and people not getting enough money at work. So dumb man!
